Legal Advisor - Regulatory Affairs | CINB-IRBN

For the International Council of the Belgian Notariat (CINB-IRBN), I am looking for a Legal Advisor – Regulatory Affairs with an interest in European and international legal affairs. Fluent in French or Dutch, with a good command of the other language and an excellent working command of English.

Entreprise

The International Council of the Belgian Notariat (CINB-IRBN) is a division of the Belgian Federation of Notaries (Fednot) and the National Chamber of Notaries. It promotes and defends the interests of the civil law notary profession before European and international institutions.

CINB-IRBN is a small organisation operating within the broader Fednot environment. Its team combines legal expertise with a strong European and international dimension and works closely with Belgian and foreign notarial organisations as well as European institutions.

The working environment is open, multilingual and collaborative, with considerable autonomy and direct exposure to European legal and regulatory developments.

Its offices are located in the “House of Notaries” in the centre of Brussels, close to Brussels Central Station and the Grand Place.

Following an internal evolution of the team structure, CINB-IRBN is now recruiting an additional Legal Advisor to strengthen its legal team.

Fonction

As a Legal Advisor – Regulatory Affairs, you will follow European and international legal and regulatory developments that may affect the Belgian notarial profession and help translate these developments into practical and strategic positions.

The scope of the role is deliberately broad. Depending on the files and your own background and interests, you may work on matters relating to European corporate law, AML, family law and conflict of laws, consumer and contract law, internal market and competition law, new technologies, digital regulation or other areas relevant to the notarial profession.

You will not be expected to specialise in only one field. Instead, you will gradually develop ownership of several topics and work closely with your colleagues on a varied portfolio of European and international files.

More specifically, you will:

  • Monitor and analyse European and international legislative, regulatory and policy developments relevant to the notarial profession
  • Conduct legal research and comparative-law analysis and assess the potential impact of new developments on Belgian notaries
  • Contribute to the preparation of legal and strategic positions and advise on the approach to be taken
  • Interact with notarial federations and institutions in Belgium and other European countries
  • Prepare and participate in meetings with European institutions, the Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE) and other relevant stakeholders
  • Support the representation of the interests of the Belgian notariat at European and international level
  • Participate in seminars, meetings and other events in Belgium and occasionally elsewhere in Europe
  • Communicate the progress and outcome of files internally and to Belgian notaries, through presentations, meetings and, where relevant, publications

The role offers an unusual combination of legal analysis, European affairs, comparative law and institutional interaction, within a small team where you can take genuine ownership of your files.

Profil

  • You hold a Master’s degree in law
  • A specialisation or additional degree in European law is particularly relevant; exposure to international law or European affairs is also an asset
  • You ideally bring a few years of relevant professional experience, although the relevance of your background and overall fit with the role will matter more than a specific number of years
  • You are intellectually curious and comfortable working across several legal subjects rather than within one narrow specialisation
  • You have strong analytical and research skills and are able to translate complex legal developments into clear and practical conclusions
  • You communicate clearly and feel comfortable presenting your analysis and interacting with different stakeholders
  • You enjoy working in a small, international and multilingual team while taking ownership of your own files
  • You are fluent in either French or Dutch and have a good command of the other language. You have an excellent working command of English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of another European language is an asset

Offre

  •  A role with genuine exposure to European and international legal affairs
  • A varied portfolio of legal topics rather than a narrowly defined specialisation
  • The opportunity to work closely with European institutions and national and international notarial organisations
  • A high level of autonomy and the opportunity to develop expertise across several areas
  • A small, experienced and collaborative team within the broader and stable Fednot environment
  • An open and multilingual working atmosphere
  • A good work-life balance, with up to 60% remote working and two days per week in the Brussels office
  • Easily accessible offices in the centre of Brussels
  • A competitive salary package with a broad range of fringe benefits
