Mid-level / Senior Associate Environmental Law | Leading Law Firm

For a leading law firm, I am looking for a Mid-level / Senior Associate with strong expertise in Environmental Law, ideally gained in an industrial context. Fluent in Dutch, with a very good command of English.

Its Regulatory Practice is widely recognised as one of the leading teams in Belgium, bringing together a group of highly specialised lawyers advising both public authorities and private clients on a broad range of regulatory matters.

The team’s expertise covers environmental and energy law, zoning and urban planning, and public procurement. Its environmental practice, consistently ranked top tier, advises clients on a wide spectrum of matters, including permits, waste, soil, water, climate and packaging.

The team has a strong focus on the industrial sector and advises international corporate clients on complex regulatory frameworks at both national and European level, including matters relating to chemicals, electrical and electronic equipment, deforestation-driven commodities, food and green claims.

Combining strategic advisory work, contract drafting and litigation, the team assists clients in negotiations with stakeholders and represents them before administrative and judicial authorities where necessary. It works closely with other practice groups within the firm, offering a fully integrated and multidisciplinary approach.

Functie

As a Mid-level / Senior Associate, you will be involved in a wide range of environmental and regulatory matters, with a particular focus on industrial clients. You will handle both advisory and contentious work, supporting clients in navigating complex environmental regulations and frameworks.

You will work on matters relating to permitting, waste, soil, water, climate and product-related regulations, as well as broader regulatory issues at Belgian and European level. You will play an active role in strategic advisory work, stakeholder negotiations and, where required, litigation before administrative and judicial bodies.

Depending on your level of experience, you will take ownership of your files and act as a key point of contact for clients. You will also collaborate closely with colleagues across different practice groups, benefiting from a multidisciplinary environment and contributing to complex, high-impact matters involving multiple stakeholders.

Profiel

  • You hold a Belgian Master’s degree in law
  • You have between 5 and 9 years of experience in environmental law, ideally including experience in an industrial context and advising international corporate clients
  • You demonstrate strong expertise and analytical skills in environmental law
  • You work autonomously and take ownership of your files
  • You communicate clearly and effectively with clients and stakeholders
  • You are resilient, precise and pragmatic in your approach
  • You are comfortable taking initiative and handling responsibility in complex matters
  • You are a team player who thrives in a collaborative and intellectually engaging environment
  • You are fluent in Dutch, with a very good command of English
